Year 2! Welcome back to our conversation about Chicago Open Air. In this episode we look at, you guessed it, year 2. This year was much like the first. The 2017 headliners were Kiss, Korn, and the prince of darkness himself, mother fu¢k’n OZZY! One of the main reasons we like festivals is it gives us a perfect opportunity to find new bands, and the second Open Air was no different. We discovered two of our favorite bands (Also, both from Sweden - so much damn good music coming out of this country!), Avatar and Amon Amarth. This was a perfect follow up to what we considered our perfect festival.

It was our first live show in almost 7 years, not only that but it was our first festival ever too.. Headlined by Slipknot, Disturbed, and Rammstein with a slew of other amazing bands this was for sure going to be the best show we had ever seen, right? It sure was. To this day we still consider this one of the best shows and it has become the gold standard by which we judge all other festivals. Join us as we look back at this phenomenal festival.

It’s been almost a year but we finally made it back to the House of Blues, Chicago. And we did so as Romans. OK, maybe not as Romans ourselves but we did because We Came As Romans were in town.  They brought with them Erra and Brand Of Sacrifice to give us one hell of a show. Join us as we look back at this amazing show held in one of our favorite venues with some killer surprises.

It's time again to celebrate another milestone with a member of the Big 4. Anthrax is 40! For the special occasion they took the show on the road and we were able to see them when they stopped in Chicago at the Radius, which is quickly becoming one of our favorite venues. Along with the thrash gods we were able to witness a masterful surmean from Black Label Society and another thrash legend Exodus. Happy birthday Anthrax!

Amon Amarth once again takes Chicago, and once again they kill! Along with the mighty Vikings we were able to see some amazing death metal bands. For the second time we saw Carcass. It was also our first time seeing Obituary and Cattle Decapitation. It was a glorious battle, listen and see how Chicago fared against The Great Heathen Army.

Finally made it to Reggies for a show. It was the first show of 2023 when we saw three tribute bands; Damaged Justice (Metallica), Sabbatha (Black Sabbath/Ozzy), and Giznad (Danzig/Misfits). With so many amazing songs to pull from and at an venue that is a staple in Chicago how could this be a bad show. Listen in to see what our thoughts were and how the night turned out.

Non normal shows are some of our favorites. Whether its in an unique venue, or with a sympathy supporting the band, or a fully acoustic set. Wage War, a band we just discovered in 2022, did just this with two out of three, which ain't bad. On tour with the headliner A Day To Remember, both bands put on a killer show in an amazing ornate venue, the Chicago Theater. Tag along as we relive this fantastic concert.

With this being one of the last shows of 2022 we once again returned to Aragon Ballroom to join Q101 for night 2 of their Twisted Xmas concert series. While it's not a metal show by a metal artist, it was an amazing show with the rock icon Jack White. Join us as we revisit this incredible show and hear our evolving thoughts on this historic venue and our first time seeing Jack White, it will not be our last.
