As we say at the beginning, this podcast is primarily about live music and metal music. When we say live music, we mean a concert. Hopefully GA, but a typical concert. However, there are many other ways to experience live music. In this episode we explore some of these other types of live music. Listen in and see if we missed any, or if any or your favorite ways to consume music are in this list.

We make the trip to the burbs once again. This time, to see Eluveitie. A new, to us, band that melds folk and metal. This also happened to be a very special show because it was Fabienne Erni’s (Eluveitie - singer/harp) birthday! Joining Eluveitie was Omnium Gatherum and Seven Spires. Unfortunately this was the second show where a band member for the headlining act was unable to be at the show. But just like the last time this did not stop the band from bringing their all and putting on a killer show. Join us as we look back at this show and debate if we will be heading back to the burbs for a show anytime soon.

Here it is, year 3. The final Chicago Open Air. At least for now, we hope. While the venue remained the same, just under a different name, much of what we fell in love with was gone. Even though the festival setup did not live up to past years, the music did. The 2019 headliners were System of a Down and Tool. Only 1 stage, and 2 days this year. But like past years we found many new bands through the opening artists. The final installment of Chicago Open Air left a sour taste in our mouth, but the overall experience of the 3 years have left us wanting a Metal festival to return to the midwest and our favorite city, Chicago.

Year 2! Welcome back to our conversation about Chicago Open Air. In this episode we look at, you guessed it, year 2. This year was much like the first. The 2017 headliners were Kiss, Korn, and the prince of darkness himself, mother fu¢k’n OZZY! One of the main reasons we like festivals is it gives us a perfect opportunity to find new bands, and the second Open Air was no different. We discovered two of our favorite bands (Also, both from Sweden - so much damn good music coming out of this country!), Avatar and Amon Amarth. This was a perfect follow up to what we considered our perfect festival.

It was our first live show in almost 7 years, not only that but it was our first festival ever too.. Headlined by Slipknot, Disturbed, and Rammstein with a slew of other amazing bands this was for sure going to be the best show we had ever seen, right? It sure was. To this day we still consider this one of the best shows and it has become the gold standard by which we judge all other festivals. Join us as we look back at this phenomenal festival.

It’s been almost a year but we finally made it back to the House of Blues, Chicago. And we did so as Romans. OK, maybe not as Romans ourselves but we did because We Came As Romans were in town. They brought with them Erra and Brand Of Sacrifice to give us one hell of a show. Join us as we look back at this amazing show held in one of our favorite venues with some killer surprises.

It's time again to celebrate another milestone with a member of the Big 4. Anthrax is 40! For the special occasion they took the show on the road and we were able to see them when they stopped in Chicago at the Radius, which is quickly becoming one of our favorite venues. Along with the thrash gods we were able to witness a masterful surmean from Black Label Society and another thrash legend Exodus. Happy birthday Anthrax!

Amon Amarth once again takes Chicago, and once again they kill! Along with the mighty Vikings we were able to see some amazing death metal bands. For the second time we saw Carcass. It was also our first time seeing Obituary and Cattle Decapitation. It was a glorious battle, listen and see how Chicago fared against The Great Heathen Army.

Finally made it to Reggies for a show. It was the first show of 2023 when we saw three tribute bands; Damaged Justice (Metallica), Sabbatha (Black Sabbath/Ozzy), and Giznad (Danzig/Misfits). With so many amazing songs to pull from and at an venue that is a staple in Chicago how could this be a bad show. Listen in to see what our thoughts were and how the night turned out.
